Mechanics Bank Commits $250,000 to the Yreka Carnegie Library Rehabilitation Project

Mechanics Bank has pledged $250,000 to support the Yreka Carnegie Library Rehabilitation Project, a key initiative aimed at transforming the historic library into a vibrant hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. The revitalized space will provide state of- the-art facilities for business incubation, tourism marketing and development, economic resiliency and community programming. This investment aligns Mechanics Bank with The McConnell Foundation and the Ford Family Foundation as major partners in the effort to revitalize the facility and promote economic resilience in Siskiyou County and the surrounding region.

The Yreka Carnegie Library Rehabilitation Project is supported by the California Jobs First Pilot Award and USDA RISE. The project’s goal is to create a collaborative workspace that fosters entrepreneurship and investment while also serving as a venue for business support programs, tourism development initiatives, and community enrichment opportunities.

"Mechanics Bank recognizes the importance of strategic investments that create lasting benefits for communities," said Tony Kallingal, Chief Banking Officer for Mechanics Bank. "The revitalized Carnegie Library will provide essential resources for business development and economic sustainability, making it an invaluable asset to the region."

Karley Buhl, SEDC Board Chair and Vice President- Retail Area Manager for Mechanics Bank, emphasized the significance of the partnership. “I am honored to be a part of two organizations that are devoted to fostering growth and stability for the future of Siskiyou County. The revitalization of the Carnegie Library will provide opportunities for economic growth while preserving an important piece of local history.”

Tonya Dowse, Executive Director of Siskiyou Economic Development, highlighted the broader impact of the donation. “This contribution from Mechanics Bank is instrumental in moving the Carnegie Project forward. Public-private partnerships like this demonstrate the power of collaboration in rural economic development. The revitalized library will become a dynamic resource for entrepreneurs and community members across Siskiyou, Trinity, and Shasta counties. This project is not merely about restoring a building; it’s about creating a dynamic platform for rural ingenuity and progress”

Once completed, the Yreka Carnegie Library will offer a range of services, including tailored business programs, co-working space, and support for tourism and economic development initiatives. The project represents a strategic investment in the future of the region, preserving historical architecture while fostering innovation and community engagement.
